ARES Students’ Butterflies Take Flight at Ishpeming Senior Center

Elementary students, spanning Jr. K-5th Grade, were creating butterflies up until the end of the school year. Families also made some at Family Night in May. Last week, I dropped off 130 butterflies to be added to an already existing display at the Ishpeming Multi-Purpose Senior Center display. Butterflies will be on display there until January 2027.

"A Caregiver’s Butterfly Garden" project aims to raise awareness of the growing shortage of direct care workers and show appreciation for their service in caregiving, while also involving communities in art-making. The project involves several installations throughout the state of MI, consisting of hand-crafted butterflies and botanicals that spotlight care, resilience, and joy. This project is funded by grants from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services and involves partnerships with MSU’s IMPART Alliance and AgeAlive organizations and resident artist, Zahrah Resh.
